2017 Indspire Awards Honouring Extraordinary Indigenous People

The 2017 Indspire Awards are this Friday March 24th from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Indspire is an indigenous-led registered charitable organization that invests in the education of indigenous people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada.   This organization is held close to President and CEO Dave Tuccaro’s heart, and he has been a major supporter of this worthwhile cause.  Currently serving as Chair of the Board of Directors, Dave has been instrumental in helping to raise millions of dollars for the organization.  In 2015-16, Indspire awarded over $12.2 million through 3,792 scholarships and bursaries to Indigenous students across Canada.  Enriching lives of indigenous peoples, particularly through education, is a core value to  Dave and everyone at the Tuccaro Group.  We are proud to be part of such a worthy organization.

Santa Parade

The annual Santa Parade was held December 3rd, and it was the biggest one ever. The Tuccaro Group’s submission was a huge hit, including Rudolph the Red Nosed Truck and what was arguably the most colourful service truck ever to be seen in Fort McMurray.

Thanks to our employees and their families who worked so hard on the float and walked along in the parade representing our group of companies spreading Christmas cheer to the thousands of people who attended. We were also happy to have the Tuccaro Peewee Junior Oil Barons join us.

It was a great start to the Christmas season and we were happy to be a part of it!

A longtime supporter of youth sports, Tuccaro is once again proud to be the name sponsor for the 2016/17 Peewee AA Junior Oil Barons.  This group of dedicated athletes will spend most of this winter practicing and travelling around Alberta playing the game they love representing our city.  Everyone at Tuccaro wishes the team the best of luck this season, and hopes they make memories to last a lifetime.

Tuccaro is once again proud to be the name sponsor for the team. The team honoured our first responders who bravely defended our city during the May wildfire. Tuccaro is proud to have helped support Emergency Services during the fire with potable water, heavy equipment and fueling services. WPS was back before residents to ensure that there was safe, fresh drinking water ready upon their return.

Sand Trapped Charity Golf Classic

The ‘Sand Trapped’ Golf Classic is an annual event held in conjunction with the Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference. The trade show was cancelled due to the wildfire, but the Golf Tournament went ahead. This year’s event raised funds for the Keyano College Foundation, a long time beneficiary of Dave Tuccaro and the Tuccaro Group of Companies. The 18 hole tournament and lunch provided our group with a chance to network among other business community members while helping a major institution of Fort McMurray.

Our Heroes Welcome us Home!

On May 3rd as 88,000 of us fled our homes we all saw the same thing…our first responders.  As we drove south down the highway out of town we were met by groups of firefighters and police from other cities racing to Fort McMurray to help.

The only reason that the majority of Fort McMurray is standing today is those people who stayed behind who fought the Beast and saved our city.

How do you thank a group of people who ran toward the fire as we fled to safety. How do you thank a group of people who said goodbye to their families as they left town to safety.  How do you thank a group of people who have worked endless hours to save our homes, many of them losing their own.

ourheroes2Today residents are returning home to the same sight…our first responders welcoming us home to our city that they worked so heroically to save.  None of them will say they are heroes, so we will say it for them.

To all of the first responders who came to help our city and to those who call Fort McMurray home…thank you.

Standing Shoulder to Shoulder

When someone asked me how things were and I complained about the garbage bag I forgot to take out from our kitchen on the afternoon of the evac and how bad it might smell when I got back and I looked across the room and saw one of my colleagues, head down, working hard to restore service at Tuccaro Group, I had a moment of realization. He had lost his home, all of his belongings, didn’t know where he would be living 4 months from now. Then I told myself to smarten up and carried on working hard to support Tuccaro Group. It’s people like that that I am proud to work along side and will do everything I can to support.

This is our community

As our non-local counterparts grabbed their equipment and fled south to safety, TUC’S rounded their fleet and drove into the fire engulfed North to protect our community.
